Objective: Due to more comfortable handling the trend in modern adhesive technology leads to using self-adhesive resin cements. This study presents physical properties of a new self-adhesive resin cement compared to three commercial available self-adhesive resin cements and one conventional resin cement system.

Methods: Materials for testing were a self-adhesive resin cement (SAC, VOCO), Maxcem (MC, Kerr), RelyX Unicem (Uni, 3M Espe), Multilink Sprint (MS, Ivoclar Vivadent) and Bifix QM (BQM, VOCO).

Water absorption/solubility of the materials were measured according to ISO 4049. Flexural strength was measured according to ISO 4049 in chemical (CC) and light curing (LC) mode and after thermo cycling (TC). Shear bond strengths were tested following ISO/TS 11405 on bovine dentin using the testing machine zwicki Z2.5 (Roell). Data were tested by one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan's multiple analysis on the .05 level (n=10).

The physical properties of the new self-adhesive cement are comparable to those of the conventional system and significant different to the three commercial cements. However the bond strength is a little bit lower compared to the Bifix QMa and equal respectively superior to the commercial cements.

Conclusion: The new developed self-adhesive resin cement offers properties like the conventional system and is a technological progress to the commercial cements.
