Objective: MTA is an endodontic repair material but with its long setting time defect. To improve the setting time is needed on clinical application. Purpose : the present study was to compare the setting time of MTA mixed with different solutions.

Material and methods: The four solutions were used to mixed with MTA in present study. They were H2O, NaCl, , Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=8.8) and Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=9.5). One ml of each solutions were mixed with one gm MTA. The setting time, pH value, XRD and hardness physical properties were evaluated. Data were collected and statistic analyzed by One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with p<0.05 showed significant difference. Results: The setting time were reduced as follows: H2O, NaCl, , Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=8.8) and Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=9.5). (p<0.05) The pH value change of H2O and Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=9.5) showed no statistical difference. (p>0.05) The XRD showed the peaks were no difference between H2O and Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=9.5). The hardness of H2O and Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=9.5) mixed MTA showed no statistical difference at 24 hours period evaluation. (P>0.05)

Conclusions: To reduce the setting time of MTA, the Na 2HPO4 15% (pH=9.5) solution can be considered.
