Apical Sealability of ResilonTM in Post-prepared Teeth
C. NONTANRANGSEE, S. TIMPAWAT, and N. VONGSAVAN, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand | Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the apical sealability of root canal filled with Resilon™ in post-prepared teeth. Methods: Sixty-four single-rooted human teeth were used. The crowns were sectioned at cemento-enamel junction and instrumented with a crown-down technique. The teeth were divided into 5 groups of 12 teeth each. Four teeth were used as a positive and negative control of 2 teeth for each. In Group 1, the root canal was filled with Resilon™and left intact. In Group 2, it was filled with Resilon™ and post space was prepared that left the sealing of 4 mm. from the apex. In Group 3, it was filled with Resilon™ and post space was prepared and left 2 mm of the apical sealing. In Group 4, the root canal was filled with gutta-percha with no drilling. In Group 5, the root canal was filled with gutta-percha and it was removed until 4 mm. was left from the apical area. The apical sealability was determined by measuring the apical microleakage by fluid filtration tecnique. The method was done by following the movement of an air bubble in a capillary (int. diameter 300μm) when the pressure of 300 mm Hg were applied to the system. Results: The means microleakage of Group 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were 80.08±28.9 , 80.87±17.89, 293.55±116.17, 129.77±29.04 and 263.43±21.51 nl/s respectively. There was no significant difference between the means microleakage of Group 1 and Group 2 and among Group 3, 4 and 5 (P> 0.05, Two-way ANOVA, Dunnette test). There was significant difference between the means microleakage of Group 1 & 2 and Group 3, 4 and 5 (P<0.05). Conclusion: The apical sealability of the root canal that filled with Resilon™ of 2 mm similar to those filled with gutta-percha of 4 mm. | Seq #189 - Treatment of Root, Post 2:00 PM-3:15 PM, Friday, July 4, 2008 Metro Toronto Convention Centre Exhibit Hall D-E |
