New Ways for Resolution of Inflammation in Periodontitis

Sponsored by: Periodontal Research
Description: Conventional therapeutic approaches aim to “block” the inflammatory processes rather than to “resolve” the inflammation. The “resolution” of inflammation is a highly coordinated and active process and utilizes cells and various messenger molecules generated by cells to provide “stop signals” to shut down and clear the inflammatory process. In periodontal disease pathogenesis, similar to other forms of host-mediated tissue injury, the induction and resolution of inflammation processes are concurrent phases. This session will discuss the available data and the results of ongoing studies to demonstrate new treatment concepts where natural pathways of resolution of inflammation can be used to limit the periodontal inflammation and promote healing and regeneration.
