Prevalence of Neck ,Back and Low-Back Pain in Orthodontists

Objectives:

Evaluation of postural pain in orthodontists compare with other dentists and some solutions to avoid and decrease it.

 Methods:

 The survey was conducted on a sample of 415 dentists (100 orthodontist and 315 dentists and other specialist). The self administered questionnaire was composed of 16 questions about background data (age, gender, weight, working hours…) this questionnaire was send via internet.

History of pain sensation in neck, back, low back even in feet (for checking of history of rheumatoid pain) and any try for prevention or treatment of it.

Results:

Conclusions:

In this survey we divide persons to orthodontic and non orthodontic group.

1.      This survey showed that 35% of orthodontists showed neck pain that is lesser than other dentists (59%).

2.       Back pain is seen on 45% of orth and 74% of other dentist.

3.      Low back pain is seen less then neck and back pain respectively 20% and 35% in orthodontists and dentists.

4.      Age difference in neck pain sensation is not important.  But in Back pain sensation, Dentists in middle age (30-40) showed more pain in comparison with two other groups.

5.      Weekly working hours is important in pain experience.  When working hour is increased, all type of pain sensation will be increased.

6.       No relation was detected between pain and weight of dentist & orthodontist.

7.       Exercise in male orthodontist group is more common than female and other dentistis.

8.       Pain sensation has a reverse relation with exercise.

9.      Female dentist and orthodontist show more pain sensation in compare with male ones.
