analysis of caries prevalence of 12 year-old children in Shanghai

Objectives: The oral health condition and those influence factors of the 12 years old children in Shanghai were investigated and the caries prevalence tendency was supervised in order to provide referrences for the health administration department to issue the oral health care work plan.

Methods:Accoring to the requirements of the third national oral health epidemiology survey,those methods as stratified sampling multisatge sampling and cluster sampling were used to conduct the caries prevalence survey on 788 cases in the group of 12 years old children in Shanghai. The data was analyzed by SPSS software.

Results:Within all the 788 cases,the caries prevalence rate was 34.64%and the XDMFT was 0.64.The urban caries prevalence rate was 33.59% while that of suburb was 35.70%.No obvious statistic difference was showed in terms of the caries prevalence rate between the city and the countryside. (u<1.96,P<0.05).The careis prevalence rate of male was 30.03% while that of female was 39.24%.Statistic difference was showed in such terms between male and female.(u>2.58,p<0.01)

Conclusion:The caries prevalence rate and XDMFT of the 12 years old children in Shanghai were much lower than those 10 years ago.These good results acquired attributed not noly to the continuous improving of living condition and life style of the children these years ,but also to the unremitting efforts made these years in Shanghai in the field of the prevention of the oral diseases among the youngsters.This survey also showed that room still existed for the improvements of the 12 years old youngsters' permanent teeth caries prevention jobs. So great attention should still be paid to the oral health service of the persons in this age period and all kinds of proper prevention techniques should be taken to further decrease the occurrence of the caries.
