Objectives:

The main objective of the study was to evaluate the quality of obturation in single rooted teeth, obturated solely with pulpdent root canal sealer and gutta-percha points with traditional zinc oxide eugenol root canal sealer

Methods:

Access cavities were prepared in 80 single rooted anterior teeth. Cleaning and shaping was done and the volume of the root canal at various levels (pre obturation) was assessed using spiral CT. Then the root canals were filled solely with pulpdent root canal sealer (Group I, n=40) and gutta-percha with traditional zinc oxide eugenol cement as sealer (Group II, n=40). Volume analysis was done at the same levels using spiral CT to assess the quality of filling with the two methods. The percentage difference was calculated and subjected to statistical analysis.

Results:

There was no significant difference in the volumetric analysis between the two groups.

Conclusion:

Quality of obturation of roots with Pulpdent root canal sealer is comparable to obturation with gutta-percha points with zinc oxide eugenol sealer.
