CD4 Cells: It'S Importance for Oral Lesions in HIV Patients

The oral manifestations of HIV infection are often the first clinical signs of the disease. These lesions can also act as sentinels flags in the course and progression of HIV infection and AIDS. Objective: to evaluate the frequency of oral lesions and it relation with the count of CD4 + cells and viral load in HIV-positive patients at the Gizelda Trigueiro Infectious Diseases Hospital in Natal / RN, Brazil, Methods: Were evaluated 121 patients, after clinical examination of the oral cavity, sample of peripheral blood were collected for analysis of the counts of CD4+ lymphocytes, Results: It was observed a prevalence of 25.6%, or 31 cases of patients with oral lesions. The candidiase was the most common, followed by hairy leukoplakia, linear gingival erythema, herpes simplex, PUN and GUN. The average of CD4+ cells of patients with lesion was of 250 cells / ƒÝl, Conclusion: No relationship was observed between the presence of oral lesions and the viral load of the patients.
